Minor Trophy (Surrey Division 5) - Monday 31st March 2025

6 boards, The Fellowship, Epsom

Epsom 5 1-5 Coulsdon 3

Epsom 6   6-0 Dorking 2

On Monday there was a Minor Trophy double-header at the Fellowship, with Epsom 5 hosting Coulsdon 3 and Epsom 6 welcoming Dorking 2.

A bustling Epsom Chess Club in session

It was a tough evening for Epsom 5 - despite Pietro Silke Balerna picking up an efficient early win, the other five games slipped out of our grasp. A particularly bitter set of pills for the bottom three boards to swallow, but Alex, Dom and Gary will all benefit from the experience of having winning positions which needed to be converted to won games.

Epsom 6 were in dominant form against Dorking 2, with the team of six juniors winning every game. Highlights included a quick win on board 1 for Sachin Kumar, a first-ever standard play win playing for Epsom for Leia Keen on board 6, and Maya Keen navigating through a mazy and intricate endgame to seal the 6-0 win against Peter Lawrence.
